Augusta Raurica

On Friday June 23, pupils from S3 Human Sciences EN/FR and S3 Latin-EN visited Augusta Raurica, a Roman archaeological site and an open-air museum in Switzerland located on the south bank of the Rhine river about 20 km east of Basel. The students got to experience a typical Roman theatre, the remains of an amphitheatre (where gladiators fought for their lives), and the dwellings of the Romans around 15 BCE. As well, the group visited the curia, basilica, cloaca, and the forum during their visit, understanding the role of a metropolis and flourishing trade centre during that particular historical period.
