Despite this being a very busy year for the commemoration of the centenary of the Great War, the German historian Gerd Krumeich, expert in the field, visited the European School of Strasbourg on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, to give a conference on the causes and the course of the First World War. Gerd Krumeich has written and edited several books with renowned French historians such as Jean-Jacques Becker, Stéphane Audoin-Rouzeau and Antoine Prost and he is currently preparing a book on the subject of Verdun.
Professor Krumeich presented his views with both charisma and enthusiasm, speaking in German and French to students of the S6 and S7 classes. During the intermission, a beautiful selection of military music from 1914, prepared by our music teacher, Lisa Fischer, revived the concentration of the very attentive student audience. Prof. Dr. Krumeich has donated several books written in German to our students and are in the CDI. Translations will be ordered very soon.
