The European Schools Science Symposium took place this year in the European school of Brussels II (EEB2) and the EUROCONTROL (civil-military organisation dedicated to supporting European aviation) in Belgium. Two senior scientific projects from the European School of Strasbourg were conceived, developed and presented by five students of our school: “Project Sparky Feet (PSF)” designing futuristic shoes using electromagnetic induction to map the pressure applied on the sole. It was carried by an S5EN team: Maya FLETCHER, Christine Rose EBERSOLD, Gabriel Johan PATRICIO LEIDEKKER. “The effects of bilingualism on the brain” focused on the relation between learning disabilities and bilingualism. It was carried by two S6EN students: June COLL PÉREZ and Vera ABUBAKIROVA This event was an incredible opportunity for our students to experience the scientific world by discussing, debating and discovering all the other schools’ projects. First, the exposition of their posters to all the participants and then, the official presentation of their projects in front of a Jury were essential milestones in their scientific formation. The passion, attitude and devotion of our students were exemplary during this event and every minute passed there constructed solid fun yet deeply formative memories for them. The two supervising teachers, Ms. Patricia TÓURON TOUCEDA and M. Ziyad CHAKER were really delighted to share this unique experience with them and clearly strengthened the scientific and human bond with them. Indeed, the social interactions with all other students, teachers, hosts and unique guests (researchers, astronaut, artists) formed an amazing dimension of this experience. Despite not being qualified for the final rounds of the competition, our students fought well and defended their projects to the best of their capacities. Most importantly, students as much as teachers came back home with plenty of ideas, plans and a large dose of motivation for future participations to this event.
