Throughout the S1-S7 geography cycle, students will begin to use new methods and tools in order to better understand the world around them. With the aid of charts, maps, graphs, photographs and other geographical material (such as geographical information systems), students will learn to interpret as well as convey thematic data concerning our changing environment.

Students begin this project with a global perspective of Earth and its placement in the solar system. Various landforms will be studied and new language skills will be employed to explain what we see around us in geographical terms. Climate and vegetation will be analysed and compared across regions. Identifying where essential resources can be found and our unbalanced access to them will broach the subject of economic and environmental challenges around the world. The modification of environment will lead to debates concerning global warming and conflicts related to land use. Students will study food security in the 21st century and its challenges, as well as current trends in urbanisation processes, seeking to explain what is driving such trends while assessing its positive and negative effects.

Demographics, migration paths, tourism, industry, development and globalisation will be studied in S6 and S7. A special focus on Europe and the European Union are also included in these last years.
